Muralla Roja, designed by Ricardo Bofill, is one of most iconic pieces of Spanish contemporary architecture. Located in Calpe, just about 40 km from my hometown, this place has had a great impact on my photography. Already at my first visit in 2016 I felt the need to keep exploring this masterpiece in order to keep capturing it. In the Span of 5 years, between 2016 and 2021 I carried several visits, always trying to see something unique and different. During this period, Muralla Roja became very popular thanks to Instagram, so it turned out to be harder to find a different angle. But the attraction to this place was so strong, I kept coming and coming.

For my last visit my goal was to capture Muralla Roja at night and sunrise. I wasn't very prepared for what to expect, since I didn't see such night photos, but I couldn't be happier with the outcome. It was really fascinating to see Muralla Roja in a totally different way, wandering on my own around the labyrinth. Just Muralla Roja, the sound of the waves, and me.

A selection of Muralla Roja was awarded 3rd place at Sony World Photography Awards 2023.
